27th October:- A
workshop cum CME on “Tackling
Antimicrobial Resistance in Clinical Practice” is being jointly
organized by the Department of Medical Microbiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship
Committee PGIMER, Chandigarh, WHO, ISCCM-Chandigarh (Tricity), and Tricity
Doctor’s Forum on 28th October 2017 at Lecture Theatre -1 Nehru
Hospital PGIMER, Chandigarh.
The
keynote speaker on the occasion will be Prof Johan Mouton who is an authority
in antibiotics in Europe and is a member of various reputed international
committees. He will also be conducting a workshop on animal infection models
with Ms Claudia Lagarde.
The
alarming increase of resistance against multiple currently available
antibiotics is leading to a rapid loss of treatment options against infectious
diseases. Resistance means that the antibiotic becomes ineffective against the
bacteria.
Various
properties of a drug (pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) need to be well
defined in order to make informed decisions regarding appropriate dosing
recommendations. The regulatory authorities also clearly recommend that
investigations of the properties for antibacterial agents are important in drug
development program.
Considering
the current situation, different types of actions are necessary to address
antimicrobial resistance: development of new antimicrobial agents, prevention
of the infection in the first-place, use of advanced therapies and optimization
of pre-existing dosing regimens of currently available antibiotics.
This
CME is an initiative taken by the Department of Medical Microbiology,
Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, and the various other agencies like WHO,
IMA (Chandigarh & Mohali), ISCCm (Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine
(Tricity), Tricity Doctors Forum to
apprise the participants in the importance of judicious antimicrobial usage in
patient care.
