Chandigarh 06th October:- The Panjab University Youth and Heritage Festival, Zone-B for
girls' colleges, has concluded with enthralling dance performances by
participating students.
The
4th & final day began with a Classical dance. In all 4 teams
participated in the competition. This was followed by Group dance (General) in
which 6 teams and 60 students took part. Competitions in folk dance forms
Luddi/ Sami and Giddha were also held. These dances filled the air
with joy & the audience was left awestruck. The day was certainly dedicated
to dance forms like - ladies' traditional song of Punjab - Kali Singing, Vaar
Singing, and Kavishri as these too were showcased.
Dr.
Jaspal Kaur, Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, Sec 45,
Chandigarh, said that the final day was full of festive spirit as dances from
across the country were displayed by talented girl students from as many as 9
colleges of Chandigarh & Ludhiana. It was a riot of colour and she
congratulate all the participants for putting in so much effort, in all the
events held during the festival.
Group
General dance depicting the dance forms of various regions like Haryanvi,
Rajasthani etc. were performed and their coordinated efforts and style of
dancing left the spectators spell-bound. Audience was also awestruck by the
Giddha performances during the evening. Bright, colourful attire and energetic
dance performed to rhythmic clapping and bolian, mesmerized the
audience and took the finale of the fest to a new crescendo.
In the
morning session the Chief Guest was Rakesh Kumar Popli, Additional excise and
Taxation commissioner cum collector (Excise), UT, Chandigarh while in the
evening session the Chief Guest was , Sanjay Bainiwal, DGP, UT Chandigarh. Dr
Agnese Dhillon, Secretary, Dev Samaj Managing Committee and Dr. Jaspal Kaur,
Principal ,Dev Samaj College for Women , Sec 45 welcomed both the eminent
personalities.
Veena
Dhir, Director and Choreographer,Theatre department, Panjab University,
Chandigarh. Dr. Dalip Kumar, ASPD, RUSA and Dr. Anuj Kumar, Deputy Director
Rajya Sabha, and Mrs. Sukhminder Kaur Brar, President and Director World
Punjabi Heritage Foundation & renowned Punjabi Folk Singer were the Guests'
of honour during the day.
