4 Year Old Child Now Able to Chew Food-Able to Sit without Support for 5 Minutes: A Gift Of Life From NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute

By Tricitynews
Chandigarh 27th July:- Till very recently, it was believed that brain damage during birth is irreversible. However, now with emerging research; we understand that it is possible to repair the damaged brain tissue using cell therapy.  Again, today there are still many people in India who have not preserved their stem cells through cord blood banks.  For all those patients, who have lost their hopes in finding a new treatment for neurological related disorders, adult stem cell therapy offers a new hope for such kind of patients.
NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is organizing a free workshop cum OPD consultation camp on August 31, 2019 in Chandigarh for all Neurological disorders patients based in Punjab and Haryana. This camp is being organized to facilitate the patients as NeuroGen understands patients with spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, etc traveling is extremely difficult all the way to Mumbai for just consultation purpose. All those patients suffering from such incurable neurological disorders can contact for appointments for this free camp to Pushkala 09821529653 / 09920200400
Dr. Alok Sharma, Director, NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute, Professor and Head of Neurosurgery, LTMG Hospital & LTM Medical College, Sion said that Neuro Regenerative rehabilitation therapy is emerging as one of the newer treatment options for conditions like Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental retardation, Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Cord Injury, Paralysis, Brain Stroke, Cerebellar Ataxia and Other Neurological Disorders. This treatment has the potential to repair the damaged neural tissue at molecular, structural and functional level.
Dr. Alok Sharma further said that Neuro Regenerative Rehabilitation Therapy (NRRT) done at NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is a very simple and safe procedure. Stem Cells are taken from patient’s own bone marrow with the help of one needle and are injected back in their Spinal Fluid after processing. Since they are taken from the patient’s own body there is no rejection, no side effects, hence making NRRT a completely safe procedure.
Today, we are presenting case of Mast. Bhuprad Kumar Kanwar, 4 years male, a case of dystonic cerebral palsy. Bhuprad’s mother towards the end of her pregnancy was diagnosed with low placental levels and was recommended complete bed rest. The delivery was performed using forceps and Bhuprad had a low cry immediately after birth. Due to respiratory distress and low saturation levels, he was admitted in NICU on the thirdday after birth. During the same, he also suffered 3 episodes of seizures, for which he was administered anti-epileptic medicines and such episodes never occurred ever after. Throughout the infancy, the milestones were delayed. Upon various tests and consultations, Cerebral Palsy was confirmed and his family began the search for an appropriate treatment. Bhuprad’s father came across NeuroGen BSI and approached first for a consultation to understand the course of treatment and the expected results and later for the treatment.
At NeuroGen BSI, Bhuprad underwent 7 days treatment of NRRT (Neuro Regenerative Rehabilitation Therapy) in May 2018 which is a combination of Stem Cell Therapy followed by Rehabilitation which comprise of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech Therapy, etc.
On examination following complaints were noted in Bhuprad that he was Unable to perform supine tosit. Unable to sit and stand without support. Poor gait, posture and balance due to dystonia. Attention, eye contact and concentration was selective. Unable to chew food or eat by himself. Mode of communication – non verbal or monosyllabic. Followed only 1 step basic commands. Needed assistance for A. D. L. (Activities of Daily Living).
At NeuroGen, Bhuprad underwent Stem Cell Therapy along with a customized rehabilitation program. The aim of the rehabilitation program was to develop postural control, sitting balance, improve voluntary action of weak muscles, and gait training, therapies to increase the strength of the affected areas without fatigue and to increase overall stamina and cognition of the patient. He was given exercises that would help him improve his balance, walking, stair climbing, cognition, posture and his grip. These exercises were carried out in a systematic pattern with sufficient rest intervals to the patient.
Together, the aim of the rehabilitation program was to improve his overall quality of life. Bhuprad’s parents found new hope with NeuroGen’s Stem Cell Therapy. Similar therapies were continued upon going back home. On seeing the improvements in Bhuprad, his parents decided to visit NeuroGen BSI for a repeat round of NRRT during January 2019.
The improvements seen after NRRT were that his head and trunk control has improved. Can chewfood. Socializing has improved. Understanding and awareness about and self and surroundings has improved. Posture has improved, can siterect. Can perform side lying to sit with minimal support. Can sit upto 5 minutes without support. Can stand against wall independently for a few seconds. Can maintain balance on moving surface. Has started vocalizing few words.
Dr. Alok Sharma further said that cerebral palsy affects approximately one to three out of every thousand children born. However, it is much higher in infants born with very low weight and in premature infants. Most of the causes of cerebral palsy do not have specific, curative treatments. However, children with cerebral palsy present many medical problems that can be treated or prevented. The initial stage of treatment involves an interdisciplinary team, consisting of a pediatrician, preferable one with experience in neuro development disorders, a neurologist (or other neurological practitioner), a mental health practitioner, an orthopedic surgeon, a physical therapist, a speech therapist, and an occupational therapist. Each member of the team has important, independent contributions to make in the care of the affected child. Although, these treatment option help improve the quality of life for these patients, they do not solve the problem to its core. Modern medicine and research have together thrown light on the potential use of stem cells for curbing the disastrous effects seen in cerebral palsy.
Dr. Nandini Gokulchandran, Deputy Director and Head Medical Services, Neurogen Brain and Spine Institute said thatwe are happy to see Bhuprad grow into a independent child. Neuro Regenerative Rehabilitation Therapy brings life changing improvements in the patients. NRRT definitely changed the life of parents along with bringing in more positivity and motivation in their struggle.
Dr. Alok Sharma further said that for all those millions of patients who had told by us earlier that nothing can be done medically for your illness, we can now say to you with reasonable confidence that with the availability of stem cell therapy combined with neuro-rehabilitation, Achhe Din Aane Wale Hain.
