Delay in Critical Care Risk Patients’ Life, Reduces Chances of Recovery: Dr Maninderiit Bhathal

Chandigarh, Dec.29, 2021:- It is important to provide critical care to the patients at the well equipped emergency and trauma centre as it can provide recoverable conditions, more detailed observation and invasive treatment, the doctors of Grecian Super Speciality Hospital said, adding that if critical care is delayed, patient’s life is clearly at risk and the chances of full recovery get jeopardised.

The doctors emphasised on the importance of ‘critical care and emergency care’ at the hospital for saving the lives of the critically ill patients, during a press conference at Grecian Hospital mohali.

Also present on the occasion, Dr Rohini Malhotra, head of the Emergency Department at Grecian Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali, said that our Emergency department has a triage area to sort the patients rushing in the emergency. Our team follows the ‘Zero Time Policy’ for triaging. Besides, we have a resuscitation area which is dedicated to the immediate care of patients and victims of cardiac arrest, airway breathing and circulatory compromise. Also, the hospital provides best trauma or medical care with qualified staff looking after the patients.

She added that the hospital is well equipped with emergency services and has a minor operation theatre to provide first hand treatment to the patient. The hospital also has a 24 hour pharmacy for the patients in need, besides the clinical, diagnostic and imaging labs. All these 24 hour facilities help in providing best critical care to the patients.

Dr Rohini Malhotra added that data from the Indian Medical Association shows the country needs more than 50,000 critical care specialists, but has just 8350. Also, in India 5 million patients require ICU care but only 70,000 ICU beds are available. However, hospitals must ensure that ICUs are used effectively so that best patient care and emergency care can be given to people. At Grecian hospital, emergency department is placed in an easily accessible area, where people can have access to emergency vehicles.
