Auckland’s Celebrated Indian Chef Recalls Indian Culinary Scene that Inspired His Cooking

Chandigarh 27th December:- New Zealand’s prominent chef and restaurateur, Sid Sahrawatalong with his wife Chand Sahrawat are in Chandigarh to share their New Zealand journey with the media today and to provide their children a glimpse of their cherished Indian culture.

Today, they are building a legacy in New Zealand which comprises three award winning restaurants – Sidart, Cassia and Sid at The French Café.

Hailing from a small town in Mohali, Sid went to Yadavindra Public School.  Returning to the city of Chandigarh, he says, brings back a lot of fond memories of friends, cricket and growing up.  Talking about his Indian roots, Sid Sahrawat said that his fondest memories are of his grandmother making parathas for breakfast and his grandfather teaching him maths. His father was in the Indian Army, so he have learnt a lot of discipline that he need to run three kitchens from his time with him. His love for Indian food comes from growing up in India and travelling to different places with his dad through his postings.

Sid has spent almost nine years making his indelible mark in Auckland with acclaimed restaurants Sidart and Cassia. He is known to reflect seasonality in his dishes and use the freshest of ingredients. He infuses his creative culinary skills with the traditional dishes he has grown up with in India–classic spice and flavour combinations reworked with contemporary and local New Zealand ingredients.

Sid Sahrawat won best chef and he along with his wife Chand won best restaurateurs at Metro Peugot Restaurant Of The Year 2018 Awards. Also, Sidart and Cassia won the first and the second spot for the restaurant of the year at the awards. Sidart was awarded 2 Hats this year with Cassia winning the Best Metropolitan Restaurant at Cuisine Good food awards 2018. Additionally, Sid at the French Café and Sidart are the highest rated restaurants in New Zealand to feature in LA LISTE world’s best restaurants, among top 500 in the world.

At a media event in Chandigarh today, Sid served one of his signature dishes-traditional Indian tandoori chicken in slider buns. These mini burgers serve as an excellent snack and are a great choice for parties and are his daughter Zoya’s favourite.

Speaking at the event, Sid said that the only hurdle he faced in New Zealand, was changing people’s perception about Indian food. Most Kiwis relate to Indian cuisine as butter chicken which is quite sweet and creamy. But today, with two successful Indian restaurants, Cassia the modern Indian and Sidart progressive Indian, a lot of kiwis have moved away from that notion and experiment more with Indian cuisine. Both restaurants showcase the best of New Zealand’s produce in a contemporary Indian format that is more formal and precise execution of the cuisine.

The evolution of his restaurants reflects his identity as a chef. He beautifully ties his Indian roots to the progessive taste of New Zealand’s appetizing flavors.

Though work takes over most of Sid and Chand’s time, they do make time for holidays, he love to take friends and family to Waiheke Island, a short ferry ride from Auckland, to explore the beaches and vineyards.  Paihia in the Bay of Islands holds a special place in his heart as he worked there for a few months as a young chef: the beauty of Northland is unique and unparalleled.  Rotorua is a great stop to explore not just the thermal pools but to partake in a traditional hangi in a Maori village and Queenstown as we all know is breath-taking for its views of the mountains and lakes.

Sid said that through the ups and downs of his journey, his main pillar of strength has been his wife, Chand Sahrawat as she shares his passion for food and has adapted to the industry very well. Her family background in business helps them make key decisions together.

Sid’s restaurants are at the peak of success and a testament to a combination of passion, talent and hard work.

10th City Gas Distribution (CGD) Bidding Round Roadshow Held at Chandigarh

Chandigarh 27th December:- Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) organized a roadshow for promoting 10^th City Gas Distribution (CGD) bidding round here today.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is the nodal agency for facilitating economic activities in natural gas distribution with the objective to promote competitive markets, create infrastructure and increase share of natural gas in country’s energy mix.   PNGRB has so far successfully concluded 9 CGD Bidding Rounds for selection of authorised entities for development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks in their Geographical Areas (GAs).  The recently concluded 9th bidding round for 86 GAs covering 174 districts in 21 states/ UTs was a huge success attracting interest from investors in all offered GAs.

The 10th CGD Bidding Round offering 50 GAs was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on 22nd November, 2018 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.  This roadshow is the 1^st in a series of roadshows being planned across India by PNGRB over next 3 weeks and witnessed participation from the senior Government officials, oil and gas companies, industry and academia. Depinder Singh Dhesi, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Haryana was the Chief Guest. 

At present, CGD authorization has been given by PNGRB in 10 GAs in state of Punjab covering 13 districts namely SAS Nagar, Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Barnala, Moga, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Amritsar, Bhatinda, Rupnagar, and Fatehgarh Sahib. In the 10th CGD bidding round, 3 GAs covering 6 districts- Mansa, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur ,Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Gurdaspur are being offered.

                                     

CGD authorization has been given by PNGRB in 13 GAs in state of Haryana covering 16 districts namely Sonipat , Panipat, Yamunanagar, Rewari, Rohtak, Karnal, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh, Hisar, Jind, Nuh and Palwal. In the 10th CGD bidding round, 2 GAs covering 3 districts of Sirsa , Fatehabad and Kaithal are being offered. It may be noted that a total of 4 GAs are on offer for both the state combined with Sirsa, Fatehabad (Haryana) and Mansa (Punjab) Districts grouped in 1 GA.

After the 10^th round, States of Punjab and Haryana and UT of Chandigarh would be fully authorized for development of CGD Networks.

This is a big initiative towards providing clean energy to the users in Haryana, Punjab and UT of Chandigarh. In the presentation on the 10th CGD bidding round, PNGRB highlighted the opportunities in the oil and gas sector in India and in the CGD business in particular. India's story in the natural gas sector, increasing domestic production and LNG imports to meet gas demand ; along with the country’s commitments at COP21, has pushed the Indian government to bring in sweeping policy changes that are giving a boost to the domestic gas market.

The roadshow was marked by the presence of Depinder Singh Dhesi, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Haryana. Depinder Singh Dhesi mentioned that similar to transition from GSM to 4G, the Energy Sector is also in transition Phase from Petrol, Diesel to PNG. He added furthr that under the aspirational district program of Niti Ayog, Palwal and Nuh have been taken up as backward districts for focused intervention by various departments and he make a special request that roll out of scheme in district Nuh be taken up on priority.  Depinder Singh Dhesi said that PNGRB needs to be complimented for the proactive approach it has taken to roll out this program and he is confident that for the 10th round also, the industry would respond with great enthusiasm.  He said that this initiative by PNGRB would provide benefits to the people of Haryana, and the Government of Haryana would provide all the necessary support required to fructify this plan. 

Dev Samaj Mahotsava: Dev Samaj College of Education organizes Blood Donation Camp

Chandigarh 26th December:- The 3^rd day,  of the Dev Samaj Mahotsava going on in  the premises of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36, Chandigarh, started with the soulful Bhajan,'Param Lakshya Guru Puran Hove'.

In keeping with the Dev Samaj philosophy of conducting activities beneficial for society, a blood donation camp was organized by the volunteers of Dev Samaj institutions with the help of GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. The camp was hugely successful with 73 units of blood  donated.

Dr. Agnese Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education said that such activities were especially undertaken during the Mahotsava to develop altruistic attitude among students. More than 250 volunteers came forward for this noble cause. Free Medical and Dental camps were also organized and more than 150 persons benefitted from them.

Apart from the blood donation camp, the day witnessed wide ranging activities like a sonorous performance by the band orchestra comprising more than 100 students of the Dev Samaj schools in Chandigarh, Ferozepur, Delhi, Gurgaon and Akbarpur. A drama highlighting social and moral values enacted by the students of Dev Samaj Modern School, Nehru Nagar and Dev Samaj Modern School, Sukhdev Vihar, New Delhi was also held.

The drama, 'Lapata Hai' presented in the evening session sensitized the audience to the need for safeguarding innocence and integrity. The play moved the audience to tears by the characters’ emotional rendering of the relationships of parents and children, employer and employee, etc. The play was directed by Manoj Madan, Principal, Dev Samaj Modern School, New Delhi.

Chitkara International School’s organizes its 8th Annual Event ‘Facade- The Structural Extravaganza’

Chandigarh 26th December:- Annual Function of Chitkara International School (CIS) is well recognized for its magnificent enactment and grand endeavour. Every input and effort is put in by the School to attain the finest of performance and reach the sparkling zenith. With sprightly curtain calls, with huge pomp and show, CIS hosted a 6 day long, 8^th Annual Function, “Facade- The Structural Extravaganza”, which commenced on 16^th December 2018 at the school premises amidst great fanfare and gusto.

Each day of the function took a head-start, with the ‘structural footing’, which entertained the audience through rapturous performance. The programme further picked the pace with ‘Casting the Building Block’, analogous to ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In this ceremony, Dr Madhu Chitkara, Chairperson, Chitkara International School, placed the topmost building block to the CIS’s school emblem as the theme was directed towards structural extravaganza.

The event revolved around the beautiful interpretation of various eras and the architecture of the same. The school choir followed by Qawali won a huge round of applause from the audience. The students manifested Ancient Egyptian, Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, Mughal, Neo-classical and Modernist period through their spell-binding dance performance. The senior wing students presented an amalgamation of celebrated structures of India comprising Konark temple, Ajanta and Ellora Caves and Sanchi Stupa through a dazzling dance performance.  Apart from this the fillers on a beautiful rendition of the piquant-inferno, “Yampuri” evoked lot of interest from the spectators.  

Furthermore, the Annual Report was read out by Ishiqa Sharma, Joint secretary of the school. In her report, Ishiqa highlighted the achievements of the school in all spheres of academics and co-curricular activities followed by the outlook on the International exposure provided to the students. She also listed the awards that the school had received for its infrastructure and other academic and co-curricular activities. Throughout the event, the well researched Power Point Presentation running at the side screens filled the audience with bits of information relevant to the acts of that particular period. The each day’s function concluded with a vote of thanks and warm smiles on everyone's faces.  

Expressing her contentment and take on the significance of the Annual Function, Dr Niyati Chitkara, Principal, Chitkara International School, added that the annual event is a marvellous platform for every child as it provides the needed spotlight and confidence to the students. It’s an effort to inoculate inspired learning through dance, drama, art and music and thus it acts as learning beyond the classroom. Karamchari Sangh announced this Maharally with Families as administration is not listening to their genuine demands despite of member of parliament assurance also.

All Contractual Karamchari Sangh is raising the voice since long against the exploitation and discrimination of qualified youth and intelligentsia in contract and outsourcing system and is demanding security of these employees and to stop hire or fire policy.

Administrator Lays Foundation Stone of B Block Building at CHB Office Complex

Chandigarh 12th December:- V P Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T Chandigarh laid the foundation stone of Block B building at Chandigarh Housing Board Office Complex, Sector 9, Chandigarh today.

The Block B of Chandigarh Housing Board will be a seven storey building sprawled in the area of 1,31,620 sq ft besides the double basement having the area 41, 972 sq ft. The Block B has been conceptualized as the green building targeted for gold rating which includes green design features such as efficient water flow features, onsite STP, rain water harvesting, Solar PV 50 KWp to reduce grid demand. The building would also comprise energy saving features such as energy efficient VRV system, AHU with VFD control, fans with high efficient motors (IE-3 class), CD monitoring based car parking ventilation system, LED energy efficient interior lighting design etc.

रॉबर्ट शीहान ने ‘मॉर्टल इंजन्स’ में अपने किरदार के लिये तैयारियों के बारे में की बात

Chandigarh 11^th December:- परदे पर सही केमेस्ट्री  के साथ बड़े परदे पर किरदारों को पहचान देते हैं। इसी तरह, यूनिवर्सल पिक्चेर्स इंटरनेशनल इंडिया की आगामी फिल्मी ‘मॉर्टल इंजन्स ’ में टॉम नेट्सवर्दी और हेस्टीर शॉ के बीच एक संतुलित प्रेम कहानी दिखाना जरूरी था। टॉम और हेस्टर का एक-दूसरे के साथ काम करना, अंतत: उनके बीच गहरा कनेक्शन बन जाना और उनके किरदार के आकार लेने को इस फि ल्मन में बड़ी ही खूबसूरती से दिखाया गया है।

इस फिल्म में टॉम नेट्सवर्दी की भूमिका निभा रहे रॉबर्ट शीहान ने इस किरदार के बारे में बताते हुए कहा, ‘’टॉम और हेस्टर दो ऐसे लोग हैं जोकि नदी के दो किनारों की तरह हैं लेकिन उन्हें मजबूरन साथ रहना पड़ता है। उन दोनों के बीच अनजाना सा प्यार पनप जाता है। हेरा और मेरा काम उस प्रेम कहानी का पता लगाना है। लोगों को इंसानों के साथ भी उतना ही जुडऩा चाहिये जितना कि रोचकता के साथ। इस कहानी में मानवता जुड़ी हुई है।’

रॉबर्ट शीहान के लिये अपने को-स्टार की तारीफ  करना उतना ही आसान था। ‘हिरा ने बहुत ही डूबकर हेस्टर की भूमिका निभायी है।‘’ रॉबर्ट ने इस फिल्म में हिरा के किरदार के लिये उनकी तारीफ की। ‘’ हिरा में ऑन या ऑफ  स्क्रीन उतनी ही क्षमता है। जब वह आपसे बात कर रही होती है तो वह अपने ‘हिरा बीम’ में होती हैं। वह बेहद दिलचस्प और करिश्माई व्यक्तित्व वाली इंसान हैं। वह सही मायने में हेस्टर के उस जंगलीपन को बाहर लेकर आयी हैं- एक जंगली योद्धा की तरह, जिसके हाथ में एक धारदार हथियार है।‘’

इस फिल्म के निर्देशक क्रिस्टिन रिवर्स कहते हैं, ‘’टॉम और हेस्टंर दो ऐसे लोग हैं जो एक दूसरे पर भरोसा कर सकते हैं और अंतत: जीवनसाथी बन जाते हैं’’। वह आगे कहते हैं, ‘हेस्टर के लिये टॉम का प्यारर एक सुखद आश्चर्य है और बहुत अस्वााभाविक भी।

 ‘लॉर्ड ऑफ  रिंग्स‘ और ‘हॉबिट’ के फिल्म,मेकसज़् एक बार फिर एक महान एडवेंचर फिल्मय ‘मॉटज़्ल इंजन्स ’ के लिये एक साथ आये हैं। यह फिल्मस फिलिप रीव की इसी नाम की किताब से ली गयी है, जिसे क्रिस्टिन रिवर्स ने निर्देशित किया है। इस फि ल्मब को एकेडमी अवॉर्ड विजेता टीम-पीटर जैक्सेन, फिलिपा बॉयेंस और फ्रान वॉल्श ने लिखा है। मॉर्टल इंजन्सज’ सभ्य्ता के बाद भविष्यि में सौ साल आगे जाती है, जोकि प्रलय जैसी घटना की वजह से तबाह हो गयी थी। एक रहस्यमयी युवा महिला हेस्टर शॉ (हिरा हिल्मर) एकमात्र ऐसी जीवित बची है जोकि लंदन को रोक सकती है। लंदन अब पहियों पर चलने वाला एक हिंसक शहर बन गया है और अपने रास्तेर में आने वाली हर चीज को तबाह करता जा रहा है। जंगली और खतरनाक, अपनी मां की यादों से संचालित होने वाली, हेस्टचर, लंदन से बेदखल टॉम नेट्सवर्दी (रॉबर्ट शीहान) के साथ फोर्स में शामिल हो जाती है, उसके साथ एक खतरनाक डाकू एना फेंग (जिहा) है, जिसके सिर पर इनाम रखा गया है।

Sampurn Agri Ventures Introduces India's First Fully Fermented Paddy Straw Silica Manure

Kullu 11^th December:- To address the looming soil crisis in India and pave way for sustainable agriculture and livelihood, Sampurn Agri Ventures Pvt. Ltd. introduced the first fully fermented Paddy Straw Silica Manure, during a seminar conducted in Kullu today. The event saw attendance of approximately 100 progressive farmers and dealers. 

Addressing the farmer’s seminar, Sanjeev Nagpal, Chairman, Sampurn Agri Ventures Pvt. Ltd. said that the initiative is to address the ongoing soil crisis in India. We are currently conducting product demonstrations and inviting our farmer friends for product trials so that they see the effectiveness of the product.

Ultimately the choice of manure will have a big impact on agricultural productivity, sustainability, and also on human health, says a report brought out by a consortium of agriculture institutes.

*World Human Rights Day: Contractual Employees and Outsourcing Workers Holds " Black Flag March " Protest

Chandigarh 10th December:- The Black Flag March Protest was held to raise their voice by  various Contractual Employees and Outsourcing Workers in U.T.,Chandigarh against the exploitation and discrimination at the hands of Chandigarh administration under the banner of All Contractual Karamchari Sangh as these employees and workers are suffering and is having no Equality,Social Security and Security of tenure in the absence of any Central policy since 20 years.

Karamchari Sangh President Ashok Kumar apprised that the Contractual Employees working on sanctioned posts are not being regularized like neighboring states in the absence of any  policy and Outsourcing Workers are being hired or fired in lieu of Change of tenders or Contractors having no Security.

All Contractual Karamchari Sangh is raising the demands of nearly 20,000, Contractual,Outsourcing and Scheme workers for regularization of contract employees on sanctioned posts and Equality and Security of tenure of these Outsourcing and Schemes workers  repeatedly but no action or initiative either has been taken by Chandigarh administration to resolve the issues nor any meeting was held for welfare of contractual employees and outsourcing workers working since long in various departments of U.T.,Chandigarh.

On World Human Rights Day this Black Flag March was held peacefully to stop exploitation and discrimination of qualified youth and intelligentsia at the hands of Chandigarh administration and Contractors and also to secure the future of born  children or citizens of U.T ,Chandigarh as administration is violating the fundamental rights and human rights in this insecure systems.

Karamchari Sangh Chairman Bipin Sher Singh said that if the demands of Contractual and Outsourcing System are not met the Sangh will held "Symbolic Rally "  at Sansad Marg, New Delhi to raise their demands to reach at Prime Minister and Home Minister in the coming Loksabha Session.

Mahindra Raises the Bar for Safety of Vehicles in India

92.7 Big FM Associates With Robinhood Army for #Nokhalipet Campaign to Fight Against Malnutrition

Chandigarh 10th December:- Marking the Human Rights Day, 92.7 BIG FM, one of India’s largest radio networks  in association  with Robin Hood Army for its social initiative - #NoKhaliPet with MJ Nitin. Through this campaign, the radio station aimed to feed 1 lakh underprivileged people across India. Spread over 9 days, the campaign started on December 3rd across its 59 stations and culminated on the day of Human Rights Day, i.e. 10th December. The radio network revisited its special No Khali Pet original song during this period, to highlight their endeavor towards creating a hunger-free India. The theme of the song ‘Khali pet rahega toh, kaise desh chalega re’ was creatively selected keeping the core essence of the campaign.

The radio station through this campaign reached out to its listeners encouraging them to partake in the attempt to create a hunger-free nation. The listeners became a part of the campaign and contributed their bit by sending information to the Robin Hood Army on their Facebook page regarding excess food in hotels, banquets, caterers, wedding to collect extra food and utilize the same. The campaign also saw wholehearted donations of raw grains, legumes and pulses by the listeners and tricity residents. BIG MJs from 59 radio stations visited the local chapter of Robin Hood Army, engaged with listeners who have been working towards this cause in the city.

Chandigarh 08^th December:- पंजाब के शहर बरनाला में आर्यभट्ट ग्रुप ऑफ इंस्टिट्यूशन मे असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर के पद पर कार्यरत प्रोफेसर चतीन्द्र सिंह रूपाल ने अपने पहले काव्य संग्रह "पहला पन्ना" का आज अनावरण किया। उनकी इस पुस्तक को बतौर मुख्य अतिथि मौजूद विख्यात पंजाबी लेखक निन्दर घुगियानवी ने रिलीज करते हुए पब्लिक को समर्पित किया ।

चंडीगढ़ प्रेस क्लब में आयोजित कार्यक्रम के दौरान चतीन्द्र सिंह रूपाल ने कहा कि उन्हें लिखने का शौक बचपन से ही था। फुर्सत के पलों में वो कुछ न कुछ लिखते रहते थे। लिखने का उनका ये सबब कब जुनून बन गया, पता ही नही चला। उन्होंने बताया कि 70 कविताओ वाले 80 पन्नों के इस काव्य संग्रह में ज़िन्दगी के हर पहलू को छुआ गया है। इनमे से कुछ कविताएं तो उनके अपने जीवन से जुड़ी हुई है। उन्होंने बताया कि बुक के पब्लिशर्स "सूरजां दे वारिस" है। उन्होंने कहा की उनकी इस बुक के छपने में उनके दो दोस्तों अमनदीप सिंह गिल और जसविंदर सिंह का अहम योगदान है, वो तहेदिल से उनका आभार जताते है ।

Ankit Tiwari Unveils His Single 'Naina' at VR Punjab

Chandigarh 08^th December:- Ankit Tiwari known for composing the music for Bollywood movie 'Do Dooni Chaar'(2010) & singer of chartbusters like Aashiqui 2's 'Sunn Raha Hai', the immensely popular 'Galliyan' from Ek Villian,  'Dil Cheez Tujhe De Di' from Airlift et al, unveiled his latest single 'Naina', in a press meet held at the Splash outlet in VR Punjab here.

After the press conference Ankit Tiwari met up with his fans at the VR Punjab Social Hub. At the Social Hub, VR Punjab a performance of the talented singer was held. Ankit regaled the shoppers with his perfect rendition of 'Naina'. The music magic created, enthralled the audience who enjoyed the lilting tunes of this new release. 17 Royal exhibitors presented art, fashion, textiles and art objects made in leading palace studios across the nation. Besides handpicked collections by leading designers and labels that keep the rich Indian handmade tradition alive were also showcased.

Anshu Khanna, Founder, Royal Fables said that Governor Punjab, himself a Rajput from the royal family of Badnore, understands the importance of nurturing our heritage and we feel blessed that he inaugurated the show.

The exposition closed with a talk on the handcraft legacy of Princely India, chaired by Rani Vinita Singh Patiala and moderated by Anshu Khanna. The evening ended to the sounds of live music by Prabhtoj Singh and a regal fashion walk featuring the visiting royal dignitaries who will dress up in their own creations. Gaurav Khanna said that the bond between Kanjimull and Princely India dates back to 1870 when my great grandfather Kanjimull Khanna, started designing personal jewelry for the Royal family of Patiala. Other states of Punjab followed. Slowly our name spread right up to Great Britain and we were designing for the nobles of Britain. It was exciting to present our collection at the Royal Fables at the Taj Chandigarh.
