08th October:- Chandigarh Hospice, today celebrated the World Hospice
& Palliative Care Day on theme: Living and Dying in Pain. It doesn’t
have to happen”
The day is
celebrated to create awareness for palliative care and importance of effective
pain management for better quality of life of patient with advanced cancer. The
vision is to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care
throughout the world by creating opportunities to speak out about the issues
and to raise awareness and understanding of the needs – medical, social,
practical, spiritual – of people living with a life limiting illness and their
families.
Kirron Kher, Member of
Parliament, U.T., Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on this occasion. She
distributed Wheel chairs and tricycles to special children under Kalam Express.

Excise & Taxation Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh-cum-Secretary, IRCS, D.P.
Khandelia, Dr S.C Sharma, Former Head of the Radiotherapy Department ,PGI, Dr.
Firuza Patel, Mentor & Incharge Hospice, Dr Sushmita Ghoshal, Head of
Radiotherapy Department, PGI and the volunteers from the community were also
present during the function.
