08th August:- Department of Community Medicine, School
of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Urban Health Training Centre, Sector 38,
Chandigarh, under the guidance of Dr. Kathirvel.S, Assistant Professor, celebrated
the World Breast Feeding Week in collaboration with Integrated Child
Development Services, Women and Child Development department, Chandigarh. The
celebration was observed at Civil Dispensary, Sector 38 and at Anganwadi centre
of Sector 38 D.
On this occasion, Dr Ekta Dogra (Senior Resident) educated the women
about benefits of breastfeeding. She explained about the role of breast milk in
building the immunity and so fighting the diseases. It was also
emphasized about the need of breast milk in achieving full growth in all
aspects. She further said that breast milk is a complete package of everything
required by an infant till minimum 06 months of age.
Dr Aaina Kakkar (Junior Resident), demonstrated best breastfeeding
practice to women using audio-visuals & Mrs. Rupinder Kaur (Multi-Purpose
Worker-Female) helped the women in breastfeeding by giving hands on training to
the mothers. On this occasion, Deputy Child Development Project officer (CDPO)
Mrs. Sunita was also present and shared her views over importance of
breastfeeding. Around 40-45 women were educated on importance of breast feeding
through this activity. Queries & apprehensions of the expecting, lactating
mothers & attendants were addressed.
