September:- The
Department of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh is organizing a workshop
under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)from 5th Sept
to 7th Sept 2019. The aim of this workshop is to train the
scientists (microbiologists) and laboratory technicians from participating
veterinary institutes all over India under the ongoing Antimicrobial Resistance
Surveillance and Research Network (AMRSN) of the ICMR. A total of 16 participants
from four institutes will be trained during the workshop.
The
department of Medical Microbiology has been functioning as one of the ICMR
nodal centres in national network for surveillance of antimicrobial resistance
since 2013. Dr Kamini Walia, Program officer Antimicrobial Resistance
Surveillance at ICMR, emphasised the importance of training of veterinary
sector colleagues with issues related to antimicrobial susceptibility testing
in animals under the “One health” programme which targets man, animals and the
environment together to successfully reduce the burden of drug
resistance.
The two- and
half-day workshop will cover interactive theoretical as well as hands-on
practical aspects of bacterial identification, antimicrobial susceptibility
tests including disc diffusion susceptibility test, minimum inhibitory concentration
(MIC) determination tests, micro-broth dilution MIC test and data management in
real time.
