Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in collaboration with
Education Department, UT Chandigarh organized Children’s Parliament Chandigarh
at Tagore Theatre, Sector-18 Chandigarh.
It was a unique show where the bills
were presented debated to ensure the effectiveness of the bills in sprits and
letters. It was a wonderful methodology to make democracy work and generate
awareness at the bottom level. The issues taken up were Water Management, POCSO
Bill, Child Labour, and School Safety. Water Management, POCSO Bill, Child
Labour, and School Safety were the proposed bills placed in the House of
People. A proper procedure was undertaken to pass all the BILLS by the
student leaders. There was a detailed discussion on every BILL and a lot of
questions related to the bills were asked by the opposition leaders. Voting was
also held after the discussion on the BILL and the BILLS were passed by the
majority of the House. The students gained a lot of knowledge in connection
with the proposed bills and it gave a good exposure to all the children of the
schools about the parliamentary proceedings of a Parliament.
The students from GGMSSS-18,
GGMSSS-40, GMSSS-16 and GMSSS Dhanas Chandigarh participated as Parliamentarian
with great vigor and zeal. The students of other government schools were the
audience of the program. Near about 800 students including teachers and guests
were the witnesses of the program.
On this occasion, Mrs. Kirron Kher,
Member of Parliament was the Chief Guest and she addressed the students and
inspired them to become a good and fearless leader. She also invited to the all
the students to visit the parliament session in New Delhi.
Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary State
Legal Service Authority, UT, Chandigarh, was Guest of Honour and he appreciated
the concept of conducting a Mock session of Parliament to give students the
actual feeling of the Parliament.
On this occasion, Mrs. Harjinder Kaur,
Chairperson of the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR)
appreciated the efforts put by the teachers and students of schools in
Children’s Parliament Chandigarh. She also encouraged all the students sitting
the audience to participate in the next mock parliament sessions with vigor and
zeal.
A token of appreciation to all the
participant students along with a book on The Constitution of India was given.
The teacher-in-charge and Principal of the respective schools were also
felicitated.
The Vote of Thanks was given by Mrs.
Anindita Roy, POCSO Consultant CCPCR. Refreshment was also served to the
students and teachers at the end of the session.
