August:- On the initiative of Nirmal Chand, Regional
Director, Reserve Bank of India, Chandigarh, Bankers’ Club, Chandigarh has been
formed for Senior Bank Officers of various Banks operating in the Tri-city of
Panchkula, Mohali & Chandigarh. The
Club has been joined by about 180 Senior Bank Officers from various banks. The Bankers’ Club was inaugurated by R.
Gandhi, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India on 19th August. The first meeting/inaugural function was
attended by all the members of the club.
The office bearers of the Club have been nominated as Nirmal Chand,
Regional Director, RBI, Punjab as a President Haryana and UT Chandigarh, Anil
Kishora, CGM, SBI, LHO, Chandigarh has been nominated as a Vice-President, P.C.
Chaudhri, CGM, NABARD (RO, Haryana) has
been nominated as a Vice-President, P.M. Ghola, CGM, NABARD (RO, Punjab) nominated as a Vice-President, A.K.
Dargan, Zonal Manager, PNB, Haryana Zone nominated as a Secretary and Bhupinder
Singh, Zonal Manager, Bank of India has
been nominated as a Treasurer.
While welcoming on the occasion, A.K. Dargan,
Zonal Manager, Punjab National Bank, Haryana Zone and Secretary of the Club
said that it is the momentous occasion that Bankers’ Club Chandigarh is being
inaugurated by R. Gandhi, the noted luminary in banking & economics and all
the senior bankers will be immensely benefitted with the words of wisdom, views
and guidance of Mr. Gandhi which will also help the bankers to set priorities
for future course of action.
Nirmal Chand, Regional Director, RBI,
Chandigarh and President of the Club while speaking on the occasion said that
in the present economic and banking scenario where rapid change is taking
place, it was felt that there should be one platform where all senior bankers
get opportunity to meet each other and share their thoughts. He said that contemplation during the
meetings of the Club will also evolve the innovations in banking services to be
provided by various banks in the Region on uniformity basis. He also apprised the members about the outstanding
achievements of R. Gandhi at National and International Fora in the field of
research for Micro-financing, MSME, banking, economics and role of IT in
banking etc.
While addressing the members of the Club R.
Gandhi, Dy. Governor, Reserve Bank of India apprised the members about the
various forthcoming challenges in banking in respect of expected squeezing of
NIM (Net Interest Margin) due to international competition, shifting of
traditional banking to the other new forms of banking dominated by Fintech and
social banking. He opined that bankers will have to sharpen their farsightedness
for monitoring, control & in the treatment of the loan cases so as to
pre-empt NPAs rather than the backward looking approach being in vogue at
present.
Anil Kishora, Chief General Manager, State
Bank of India and Vice-president of the Club proposed vote of thanks to R.
Gandhi and the other Senior Officers present on the occasion.
