45 Eye Injury Related Cases With Fire Crackes Reported to the PGI

Chandigarh 01st November:- A total of 45patients with fire cracker related injury presented to the emergency services of Advanced Eye Centre, PGI, Chandigarh.
Giving brief detail about the eye injury related cases; Prof. Jagat Ram said that sixteen patients were from the tricity area, while 29 were from the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. There were 37 males and 8 females. He further said that twenty patients were <16 years of age and 3 were >40 years of age. Most of the patients (22) were between 17-40 years of age. The youngest patient presenting with ocular injury due to fire cracker was 3 years old. 21 patients were actually lighting the crackers when they got injured and 24 were bystanders. Seven patients were No Light Perception at presentation. A total of 26 patients required surgical intervention to salvage the eye, all of which have undergone surgery at the time of preparation of this report.
