Bhagwani Devi Turns Savior in Her Death:Gives ‘Gift of Life’ to Two Critical Patients at PGI

By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 16th March:- Following the footsteps of other twelve brave-heart families this year, the benevolent family of deceased Bhagwani Devi gave the greatest gift anyone can give  the ‘gift of life’ to two critically ill patients through the selfless and generous act of organ donation of their dear mother, 54 year  old deceased Bhagwani Devi here at PGIMER today.
On March 12th, the deceased, a resident of Baltana in Panchkula District was brought to PGI in an extremely critical condition following a subdural hemorrhage (SDH) and was being treated in the Neuro-Surgery department of PGI. However, it was something else willed by the Almighty. May be the time of Bhagwani Devi’s mortal existence  was over as she could not be saved despite best of the efforts and was declared brain dead on 15thMarch.
It was then the transplant coordinator raised the matter of organ donation with Ramesh, son of the deceased Bhagwani Devi, who gave his consent for the same. Following this, liver and kidneys were retrieved from the deceased. Later, the transplantation of liver and one of the kidneys enabled second lease of life to two critically ill patients in PGI. The second kidney being shrunken in size was not found usable by the concerned transplant surgeons.
Extremely courageous Ramesh, while trying to cope up with his own dark tragedy of losing his mother said that his mother was selfless. She never did anything for recognition. She did things for others because it made her feel good. There was always something special on her face and in her eyes as she would tell him of her experience of helping someone. Even in her death, she has done what she lived for by selflessly saving the lives of two others. She will continue to live amongst us through them. The family gathered around the operation theater described the deceased as a ‘kind and large-hearted person.
Sharing her experience, the transplant coordinator here at PGI said that he thinks being aware himself and efforts of the attending doctors to acquaint him about the prognosis of the disease enabled Ramesh give consent for his mother’s organ donation braving his own tragedy.”
Ranuka (name changed), the wife of the liver recipient knew that the chance of her husband surviving debilitating liver ailment for long was zero without a liver transplant. Renuka said that her husband got that chance today with a liver transplant at PGI as a result of the courageous decision made by the brave-heart son of Bhagwani Devi.  Any amount of thanks can never be enough to thank the donor family.
