Experts Deliberate on Book Reading Culture During Seminar at MCM

Chandigarh 02nd March:- The Hindi department of MCM DAV College for Women, in collaboration with National Book Trust, New Delhi organised an invigorating seminar on 'Vaishwik Paridrishya mein Pustak Sanskriti'. The seminar, held under the patronage of college Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava, included lectures followed by 'kavya sangoshti'. Noted writer Dr. Virender Menhdiratta, the Chief Guest on the occasion, expressing concern over the way creativity has suffered at the hands of information overload brought about by new technology, stated that reading for pleasure has undergone fundamental change.
Distinguished scholars Dr. Ashok Kumar, Head, Hindi Department, PU and Dr. Gurmeet Singh,Hindi Department, PU while ruing the declining book culture advised on maintaining a healthy balance between books and technology. Renowned poet, playwright and critic from Kaithal Dr. Amritlal Madan reiterated the role of books in the changing scenario and reminded that books are the only way of saving and promoting culture. Dr. Anupam Arora, Principal, S.D.PG College, Panipat opined that good books are instrumental in the shaping of human mind. Citing the example of excellent reading culture in states like Kerala and Benga, Rajiv Ranjan, Nodal Officer, Haryana State Road Safety said that such culture is the result of collective efforts. Dr.Phoolchand Manav, Dr. Kumar Vinod, Dr. Archsana Mishra, Dinesh Daghichi,  Rajwant and Vijay Kapoor held the audience spell bound with their poetry during the 'Kavya sangoshti'.
College Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava thanked the organisers of National Book Trust and said that promotion of the culture of reading intellectual literature is an issue that needs to be understood in a comprehensive manner.
