March:- Encouraged by the success of student
engagement program, ‘Be The Change, Be An Organ Donor’ in other institutions,
Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTTO) PGI covered Post
Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11 (PGGCG-11) under the project
by organizing awareness camp on Organ Donation in the college premises here
today.
Alongside, a blood donation camp was
also organized in collaboration with Deptt. of Transfusion Medicine, PGI and
the NGO Shri Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust.
Formally inaugurated by Prof. Anita
Kaushal, Principal PGGCG-11, the camp witnessed an enthusiastic response with
133 donating blood and 51 pledging for organ donation thereby, showcasing
their voluntary spirit. Expressing her happiness at the
positive turnout at the camp, the Principal, Prof. Anita Kaushal said that
there could not have been a better way to teach the spirit of selfless service
amongst the students.
Green and red being the colors of Organ
and Blood Donation, the students created an ambiance by decorating
the campus with green and red balloons. Followed by the inauguration,
an awareness talk on the altruistic cause of Organ Donation was given by a
team from ROTTO PGI comprising Ms Nilakshi and Ms Simmi B Sumbria .
Responding to the queries posed by the participants pertaining to prevalent
myths and misconceptions, the speakers asserted that the camp provided a good
platform to reach out and make the students as well as the faculty aware and
sensitize about the cause.
Leading the team, Dr. Anita, Asstt. Blood Transfusion Officer, PGI was all
praise for the college and NGO for their initiative. Dr. Anita shared that more
than 200 students turned out for blood donation but 133 cases were successful
as rest did not meet the pre-determined donor requisite criteria.
Detailing about the intent behind organizing the
camp, Rakesh Sangar, President, Shri Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust
shared that the ideology of the NGO is to promote a humanitarian spirit through
these community camps as nothing can instill a better feeling than
being instrumental in saving someone’s life. This is truly unconditional love
for humanity at large.
