By Tricitynews Reporter
Chandigarh 19th September:- National Gymnastics Day is celebrated to commemorate the graceful sport that tests everything from physical strength to agility to balance and coordination. With the recent Olympics at Rio, Indian gymnastics also saw some limelight, when Dipa Karmarkar’s waltz into the finale, created history by becoming the first Indian female to qualify for the finals at Olympics. While gymnasts and sportspeople like Dipa go through rigorous training, what they consume becomes a very important part of their fitness regime.
Commenting on the importance of a healthy diet, Chandigarh based nutritionist, Aastha Khungar said that for optimum performance, there is no escaping a healthy, balanced diet. For sports and fitness enthusiasts, her recommendation is to consume more of healthy natural foods which provide protein, iron, calcium and energy. These and many other nutrients can be derived from nuts such as almonds, fruits like berries, bananas and vegetables such as spinach, broccoli etc.. In fact, nuts such as almonds are a natural source of many such essential nutrients, including healthy fats, making them a perfect, nutrient-rich snack that can help keep you going throughout the day.
Renowned Chef Vicky Ratnani swears by the versatility of almonds, and said that you can whip up some flavored almonds, in addition to plain almonds. These nuts are easy and quick to flavour and go with just about any masala/spices. Since he has been trying to get fitter himself, he always carry them in his gym bag, so he can snack on them pre or post his workout.
For all the young and aspiring gymnasts and sportspeople, eating a handful of almonds every day along with working out regularly and consuming nutritious meals will help you maintain a healthy life. Here is an easy to prepare, flavour-full recipe which is easy to prepare and munch on the go:
